Save the Date November 19
Project Homeless Connect Resource Fair
By Jessica Beck
Though it may seem that November is ages away, we are gearing up for Project Homeless Connect (PHC) and Stand Down 2015! After bringing this amazing community event last year out of hiatus, we are excited to see how we can grow and improve it in 2015.
Last year PHC was able to offer information and services from thirty five local agencies and groups. Eleven of those groups were specific to Veterans as part of the Stand Down portion of our event. Some of the highlights from last year included: flu shots courtesy of the Visiting Nurse Association, health insurance enrollment by the Area Navigator, diabetic foot checks by the University of Iowa College of Nursing, SNAP enrollment assistance by the Iowa Food Bank Association, HIV and Hepatitis C testing by Mpowerment of Iowa City, and free donuts and coffee courtesy of the Iowa City Police Department and One Ancient Hope Presbyterian Church. During last year’s event, over 100 people participated and benefited.
Our planning committee is hard at work to secure the same vendors for this year’s event, as well as brainstorm other services that would best suit the needs of our attendees. We hope to make this year bigger and better in many ways.
Make sure to mark your calendars for Thursday November 19, 2015 from 10 AM- 4PM, when Project Homeless Connect and Stand Down will take place in the Social Hall at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center (220 S. Gilbert St. Iowa City, IA 52240).
